What is an MMJ?

What is an MMJ?  A multi-media journalist is what it stands for, but what does it really mean?

At our station, it means the reporter is also responsible for shooting their own video and writing a web story that goes with it.  But as I just read on another website, it “means as well as regular reporting, she (name removed) will also do some behind the camera work too.”  Well, don’t all television reporters do behind the camera work, too?

We all have to make phone calls.  We all have to write scripts.  We all have to generate stories.  I wish stations would be more specific about what they’re having people do these days.  Perhaps it’s because the stations don’t know what the reporters should be doing.  I think I’m on to something…
